The Gentle Pause | Issue 05 (2025)

December 28, 2025 | Brisalo | A Gentle Pause at Year’s End

As we arrive at the final week of The Gentle Pause for 2025, I find myself thinking of an old song many of us hear this time of year:

Should old acquaintance be forgot…

Auld Lang Syne isn’t really about forgetting.
It’s about remembering — with tenderness.
About honoring what’s been, even as we step toward what’s next.

So today, let’s pause here together — at the threshold between years.

✦ PAUSE · A Moment In Between ✦

This week lives in the in-between.
The year is almost complete, but not quite closed.
There’s nothing to fix, nothing to rush toward.

Just a quiet invitation to sit with what was —
the moments that shaped you, stretched you, surprised you, softened you.

✦ SEE – Looking Back With Kindness

I don’t do resolutions. I gave them up years ago. As they carried shame.
So, instead – I do reflections, adjustments, hopes.

I spend these final days of the year gently looking back — not to judge or critique, but to notice. (While drinking coffee and eating the remaining Christmas cookies for breakfast – you aren’t alone – lol).

My word for 2025 was Create.

That word showed up in ways I couldn’t have fully imagined.
• I launched Brisalo, something created slowly, quietly, and with deep intention.
• Along with, quietly tending to four other brands, each at a different stage of becoming. Some were just sketches. Some were nearly ready to be named. All of them taught me patience, trust, and timing.
• I learned how to paint in watercolor alongside my daughter — imperfect, playful, and unexpectedly sacred.
• This year reminded me that not all growth needs guidance — some of it needs room. Creating space for my daughters to move through their young adult years at their own pace has been one of the most difficult, yet meaningful practices of all.
• I stayed with the process, even when creating felt messy or unfinished.

And as I finish The Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest this week, I’m reminded again that growth doesn’t always announce itself. Often, it whispers. “Offer your own love to your own life, learn to see as beautifully as you can. It will change it all, forever. It will lead you to places bigger and more perfect than you ever dared to dream.” Brianna Wiest, Day 360 The Pivot Year

Loved ones, be gentle with yourselves.

✦ BREATHE · Make Space For What Was

Take a breath here — not to inhale something new yet, but to exhale the year behind you.

Let yourself remember:
What surprised you?
What stretched you?
What quietly worked, even when it didn’t feel dramatic?

You don’t need to make meaning of everything.
Just let the year be seen — fully, honestly, kindly.

✦ Grow – Carrying Forward What Matters

As we turn toward 2026, my hope isn’t that you rush to set goals or overhaul your life.

My hope is simpler:
That you carry forward what mattered.
That you cultivate what’s already taking root.

For the past several years, I’ve used the Cultivate What Matters planner as a companion for this kind of reflection — not asking What should I do next? but What do I want to tend?

That’s the energy I’m holding as we step into the new year together.
Beginning January 4The Gentle Pause will shift into a two-week cadence — creating more spaciousness, more rhythm, and more room to truly live what we reflect on.

Thank you for being here this year.
For pausing.
For noticing.
For becoming — in ways seen and unseen.

May we remember what deserves remembering.
And step forward gently.

With loving grace, kindness, and joy,
Stacy
